Women Eco Challenge is about the nature, adventure and the outdoor. This adventure took the participants off the beaten track to test their endurance in traversing the natural environment of Ulu Dong, Raub. 30 teams took part. Each team comprising 3 women of different ages.
Tanah Aina Fahad is a retreat from the city with very tranquil surroundings. It is indeed a 5-Star place, nestled amid the raw of the forest, set in naturally and beautifully landscaped gardens where all the tents were put up for accommodation. The sound of the river creates a soothing and intimate ambience.
Race was flagged off by YB Dato’ Seri Dr. Azalina Othman Said.
The participants sat on a rubber tube and floated downstream, getting off at each checkpoint to complete tasks like: tag pulling, eel transfer, mud run, gold leave search and gold coin search.
During the evening there was a presentation by group leaders on the theme “Your Contribution to The Environment” or in Bahasa Malaysia “Sumbangan Anda kepada Alam Sekitar”. This is to create public awareness on nature conservation. Bonus points were awarded to each group.
We all went to bed weary and exhausted but our spirits still riding high for more adventure for the next day.
On the 2nd day after breakfast the participants were energized and raring to start the RACE. Warm-up first with Stick2Stix (WSFFM’s own brand of aerobic exercise) workout led by Ms Aishah. The warm-up helped to reduce injury during the race.
Off to a flying start to tackle a muddy, slippery trek. Along the trail running, the participants had to: make a fire, do a side walk on logs above the swift flowing river, crossed the river, perform the Flying Fox, do an uphill run and crossed the river by walking on a low rope. All the participants performed their tasks in the given time of 3 ½ hours.
WSFFM’s President, Puan Sri To’ Puan Datuk Shariffa Sabrina binti Syed Akil thanked all those who took part in our outdoor event. She hoped that more women would keep healthy and fit by coming out to exercise and take part in activities in harmony with the environment. She said that Raub should receive the “Happy Community” award for maintaining most of their lush greenery and the folks were happy people.
Closing speech was given by Datuk Hj Khairulanuar, Distict Officer of Raub.
The first Prize was taken by 3 young ladies from UiTM( Nurazlin, Nur Ida, Syaheera). 2nd Prize went to Yantie, Azlinawati, and Nur Idayu. 3rd prize went to a group from Kementerian Belia dan Sukan (Wan Azura, Lailatul Azlina, Normala). All the participants were awarded certificates for team work.
